Richard Meier On Prospect Park, The Gallery at 1GAP

1 Grand army plaza, Brooklyn

From 2013 - 2018 the residents of One Grand Army Plaza collaborated with Spence Projects to continue their in-house curated art program, the The Gallery at 1GAP. Suzy Spence as Curator, mounted three exhibitions annually in the four-thousand-square-foot ground floor gallery, and she developed a social space that was organized around art events created especially for the residents. During her tenure this innovative gallery grew substantially, by supporting some of New York City’s best emerging and mid career artists, while providing One Grand Army Plaza residents the experience of living with new art exhibitions on a rotating basis. Ms. Spence scheduled lectures, openings, and monthly receptions — most notably with neighboring Brooklyn Library — and she established and continues to host The Review Panel after parties, which brings a regular audience of art critics and connoisseurs to the gallery.

Organized through a participatory process with her clients, these exhibitions included paintings, sculptures, video, and photography and were hung with attention to the building’s architecture designed by world renown Richard Meier.
