Richard Meier On Prospect Park, The Gallery at 1GAP

1 Grand army plaza, Brooklyn

From 2013 - 2018 the residents of One Grand Army Plaza collaborated with Spence Projects in a continuation of their in-house, curated art program, the privately operated Gallery at 1GAP.

Suzy Spence as Curator, mounted three large exhibitions annually in the four-thousand-square-foot gallery, and developed a social space that was organized around art events created especially for the residents. During her tenure this innovative gallery model supported New York City’s emerging and mid career artists, and enabled One Grand Army Plaza residents the experience of living with new works on a rotating basis. Organized through a participatory process with her clients, exhibitions included paintings, sculptures, video, and photography hung with attention to the building’s architecture and use of the common area.

Ms. Spence scheduled lectures, openings, and monthly receptions — most notably with neighboring Brooklyn Library — The Review Panel after parties, continue to bring a regular audience of art critics and afficianados to the gallery space.
